Lesson 1 of 8 · 15–20 minutes

Prepare with confidence

Build a repeatable preparation routine and recover constructively after rejection.

Learn the skill

Start with a behavior you can control: preparation, listening, or a clear next-step question. A sales target is an outcome; asking three useful questions is a practice behavior.

After a difficult call, separate observations from interpretation. “The buyer postponed the project” is a fact. “Nobody wants this” is an interpretation to investigate.

Use a short debrief: what happened, what you learned, what you will try next. Preparation and practice make motivation useful.

Fictional practice scenario

A prospect cancels a demo after saying their priorities changed. You feel tempted to send repeated follow-ups or rewrite your entire offer.

Your assignment

Write a three-line debrief. Draft one respectful acknowledgement, then plan a 10-minute preparation routine for your next call.

What you’ll produceA preparation checklist and a factual post-call debrief.

Review your work

  • Facts are separate from assumptions.
  • The next action is within your control.
  • The follow-up respects the buyer’s stated preference.

Coach me through this fictional sales setback: a buyer cancels because priorities changed. Ask me to distinguish facts, assumptions, and one controllable next action. Then role-play a new buyer so I can practice opening a call. Give feedback on preparation and listening, not on whether I win a sale.
