The next-step close

Turn a positive conversation into a specific, useful action you both agree to.

When this helps

The buyer sees a possible fit, but the conversation has no clear next action.

A question to make your own
“Would a short working session with your operations lead help us confirm the implementation requirements?”

Make the step useful to the buyer

Name the uncertainty the next step will resolve. A second meeting is not progress unless it helps the buyer make a decision.

Agree on the practical details

Confirm the purpose, participants, owner, and date. Ask what each person needs to prepare.

Leave room for another answer

If the suggested step does not help, ask what would. If there is no useful next action, agree to pause rather than creating activity for its own sake.

What to watch for

Treating a polite “sounds good” as a commitment, or scheduling a meeting without a shared purpose.

Make it yours

One thing to try.

Write one next-step request that includes its purpose. Then ask the buyer who needs to participate.
