Discovery and relationship building with AI
Prepare better questions, listen carefully, and follow through on what matters.
Work through the steps
- Prepare a short agenda from the buyer’s stated goal. Use AI to suggest questions about the current process, impact, stakeholders, and what a good outcome would look like.
- Role-play one skeptical buyer. Ask the model to reveal information only when you ask a useful question. Treat the simulation as practice, not customer research.
- After the conversation, summarize agreed priorities and open questions from authorized notes. Separate the buyer’s words from your interpretation and verify dates and commitments.
- Send a personal recap that invites correction. Record one useful next step with an owner and date. Follow through before asking for another meeting.
In practice
Instead of “You need automation,” ask “Where does the handoff slow down today?” Reflect the answer before proposing a solution.
A prompt to make your own
Replace the brackets with approved context. Ask the assistant to identify missing information before proceeding, and review its output against your sources.
Help me prepare for discovery with [buyer/context]. Give me six open questions and explain what each would clarify. Then role-play the buyer one reply at a time. Do not make the buyer agree automatically. At the end, assess listening, assumptions, relevance, and next-step clarity.
Your assignment
Practice a ten-minute discovery call, then draft a recap from an actual approved note set.
What to measure
Buyer-confirmed next steps and follow-through rate.
