The trial close
Ask how the recommendation is landing before requesting the final decision.
When this helps
You need feedback on fit, clarity, or remaining questions during a presentation or proposal review.
A question to make your ownHow well does this approach fit the problem you described, and what still feels unresolved?
Choose a genuine feedback question
Ask about fit, understanding, or missing evidence. Use an open question that makes disagreement easy. A trial close is a readiness check, not permission to treat the deal as won.
Follow the answer
If the buyer says the approach is promising but implementation looks difficult, explore that concern. Ask which step seems difficult and who could help clarify it. Do not answer every question with another pitch.
Use feedback to choose the next action
If the fit is clear and the decision conditions are satisfied, move to a direct ask. If uncertainty remains, identify the evidence needed. If there is a mismatch, revise the recommendation or stop.
What it can sound like
Illustrative conversation: Buyer: “The workflow fits, but I cannot judge the reporting yet.” Seller: “Which decision must the report help you make? Let’s test that before going further.”
What to watch for
Stringing together leading yes-questions or mistaking polite interest for purchase intent.
One thing to try.
Insert one open readiness question into your next demonstration and record what changed because of the answer.
